Photo book

A photo book is a printed, bound book of your own photos, usually laid out in an app or online editor and then printed by a photo service.

This is what the morning after feels like with Filmriss: nobody sees a picture until the reveal, then everyone at once.

In short

With a traditional album you slot prints into sleeves. A photo book is printed as a whole: you arrange pictures and captions in an editor, and the service prints and binds it. As Wikipedia notes, the term also covers books by photographers in which the images are the main content – the earliest known example dates back to the 1840s – but today most people mean the personalised kind.

Example

After the wedding, the maid of honour gathers the best shots from the photographer and the guests, sorts them by the order of the day and gives the couple a photo book on their first anniversary.

What to watch out for

  • Resolution: Full-page prints need images at full resolution. Photos sent through messaging apps are often downsized.
  • Save them in time: Many services delete photos after a set period. Download your pictures while they're still available.
  • Curate: Fewer strong images work better than cramming every page. A mix of posed shots and candid photos tells the story of the day more vividly.

With Filmriss

Once the gallery opens, you can download every photo from the event as a ZIP in original quality – a solid starting point for a photo book. Photos are deleted 90 days after the reveal, so save them in time. See the features page for details.
